The Greens are pushing for a new refugee plan, which would welcome 50,000 asylum seekers into Australia and close offshore detention centres. But will it work?
It sounds like a good proposal and we definitely have the resources to fund and implement it, but we've got to find a solution to stop endangering people on their journey here.

I think there is no doubt the Greens plan would work. Our nation has a long history of taking refugees in and making life better for them and in the process strengthening our own society.
This is not to say we have always been welcoming. There have always been cheap political points available to any politician who would like to sink the boot into the refugees, and this remains the problem with the Greens plan - the ease with which a fear campaign can be launched against it.
