According to their 2017 annual report, NSW Police Force are 15% below their gendered equal-opportunity employment benchmark, despite their highly-publicised women-only recruitment effort by the AFP in 2017, and the headhunt outside of the force to find a female candidate to replace ex-Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn. Many are asking the question: is it the right time to be a woman in the police force?
I think that there are plenty of opportunities for women to join the police force, yet I do agree that there is a perception surrounding the culture of the police force that makes it seem not female-friendly. The question should be whether these perceptions hold truth.
